Special awards

Fr. Vincent Tegeder, OSB/SJU Outstanding Administrator Award – Michael Roske, Abbey Woodworking. The award recognizes service and excellence within the Saint John's administrative community - someone who embodies the spirit of Saint John's, provides quality service and makes a powerful contribution to Saint John's.

“There are now a record number of volunteers in his department, and this is in no small way due to the tone (Roske) has set,” said SJU President Michael Hemesath, who presented the award. “He is certainly a master craftsman, attending to the stewardship of the land, the trees, the talent and the goals of producing beautiful, functional furniture and items for worship, service and play.

“His gregarious and welcoming personality is infectious, and he jovially gives life to others,” Hemesath added. “The following story told by one nominator exemplifies just this lively approach: ‘He does great work in the woodshop and is willing to give me credit for the mistakes I make!’ ”

The other nominees for the award were Daniel Gullo from the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library and Cathy Wieme from SJU Institutional Advancement.

“If you know Daniel, Michael or Cathy, it will come as no surprise that each of them was described in their individual nominations as being someone who raises the profile of Saint John’s in a positive way,” Hemesath said. “Each nominee … reflects the very best of the spirit of Saint John’s.”
