How did you find out about your internship/fellowship/etc.? By the emails that are sent to students at CSB/SJU, so please read the emails that are sent!
What were your responsibilities at your internship/fellowship/etc.? I was a Job Coach for high school students. In addition, I helped with marketing at a new Hmong church.
What was the most beneficial aspect of your experience? I was able to meet high school students who were goal-oriented and passionate about social justice. With being their Job Coach, I was able to provide guidance so their future experiences could run more smoothly. Overall, I was happy to be a resource.
What was the most surprising thing you experienced or learned during your internship/fellowship/etc.? How a poor manager can affect the whole team.
How youth work is underfunded and unappreciated. I must advocate for these programs, so the youth know that there are people invested in their future.
How can you apply what you experienced at your internship/fellowship/etc. in the future? I now know what I want in a supervisor.
I want a work environment that is organized and proactive instead of reactive.
What advice would you offer to future students interested in this experience? The program is wonderful because I was able to grow in patience and got to sharpen the skills that I already have. No matter if the experience is good or bad, you are able to grow from it.
