Training Workshops

Specified topical workshops are offered at no charge to CSB/SJU students, faculty and staff. Workshops are designed to provide skills necessary to utilize the technology available at CSB/SJU.

ATTEND WORKSHOP WITH ZOOM

After registration of a workshop you'll receive an email with meeting information, and will include Zoom meeting information when relevant. To attend the workshop with Zoom to participate in the training use the link "Join Zoom Meeting" in the email you'll receive inviting you to the meeting. If you don't want to use your computer's speakers or microphone, you can use the phone number included in the email to call into the meeting instead. How to Connect to a Zoom Meeting  is a short video showing you how to connect and adjust your speakers and microphone.

Canvas Grading & Speedgrader

In this training you will learn hwo to use Canvas grading and the speedgrader. Learn how to setup weighted categories, gradebook functions and how speedgrader works.

Canvas New Quizzes

New Quizzes is an assessment engine that integrates with Canvas as an LTI tool and replaces the classic quizzes functionality currently existing in Canvas. In this session try out the new quizzes functionality.

Designing Your Canvas Course and Tips & Tricks

This hands-on training will walk you through how to design a Canvas course that keeps students engaged. We will cover how to use some of the free tools available through Canvas, along with other aspects of what Canvas offers. We will also go over some Canvas Tips and Tricks!

Microsoft OneDrive
Register for Training

Need a place where you can share documents, edit documents with others, and access from anywhere?
Then you need OneDrive. Come to this session and see the ins and outs of how OneDrive works. Find out how to create, edit, and share documents and how to access your documents through the web or through explorer view.  Come to this session and see the ins and outs of how One Drive works.

Starting with Microsoft Teams

A short (1 minute 15 second) video is available on Access Microsoft Teams Online.

Part of the Office 365 package, Microsoft Teams, is a collaborative tool allowing everyone in a 'team' to communicate directly with each other and share documents in a common space. In this session you will learn what Microsoft Teams is, how to create a team and see a brief demonstration on how to use the software. Sessions will either take place in person at the location mentioned or online via Zoom. You'll receive a Zoom Meeting Link prior to the training.

Teams & Microsoft O365 Apps  
Register for Training

Attend this session and learn how Microsoft Teams works with and collaborates with other O365 apps. In this session you will learn what Microsoft Teams is and looking into a few more features that Teams has to offer. It is recommended that you take the Microsoft Teams course, above, prior to this one. Sessions will either take place in person at the location mentioned or online via Zoom. Portfolium          
Register for Training
 

Portfolium is an academic portfolio network allowing students to showcase their education and work accomplishments and connect with other professionals. A Portfolium profile allows you to organize and display previous educational and professional content. Integrations Curriculum students will be required to create a Portfolium site. E-portfolios are a high-impact practice which allow students to collect work and reflect on what they've learned as they move through their education. Portfolium integrates with Canvas, so professors can build assignments/rubrics and grade.

In this training session learn how to add an assignment that is connected to Portfolium, how the students access it and how Portfolium works from the student side.

ePortfolios and How Are They Useful?

ePortfolios are digital repositories of student work, that help transform the student education experience. The electronic or digital portfolio is an ideal format for collecting evidence of student learning, especially for those outcomes not amenable or appropriate for standardized measurement.

At this session see why ePortfolios are usefull, how they have a high impact practice in education, and see how to set up, add projects, and change settings in Portfolium.

The HIVE - Getting Started for New Instructors

This session will offer the knowledge and training needed to be able to do the following in The HIVE: 

- Progress Surveys – what are they and how to complete them
- Raising alerts outside of the survey process
- When to Comment on and/or clear alerts
- Navigate the HIVE and manage your view on the student list
- Overview of office hours – drop in appts, appointment types and online scheduling
- Adding meeting outcomes and streamlining post meeting communication with students
- How “notes” work

The HIVE - Training for Faculty Advisors
Register for Training

While there are many ways The HIVE can be used, there are specific tools and features that Faculty Advisors should be familiar with to best support students at CSB/SJU. Attend oen session to learn about features and tools used by the Faculty Advisor as well as a few features you want to guide your advisees towards using within The HIVE. This session assumes that you have an understanding of The HIVE and that you have completed setting up your profile prior to attending the session. Please bring your own laptop to this session.

- Using referrals or other alerts to connect students to services
- Managing the Student List - How to find and manage your advisees
- Pre-meeting preparation using The HIVE
- Raising, Commenting on, and Clearing Alerts
- Record Keeping using The HIVE (meeting notes) 
- Configuring Office Hours for Online Scheduling

Workshops can be arranged for groups on software applications such as, One Drive, Zoom, SharePoint and Canvas. Other offerings include:

  • Orientation to Instructional Technology and Library Resources; learn about the resources available through Instructional Technology and the Library.
  • Microsoft Teams; part of the Office 365 package, this, is a collaborative tool allowing everyone in a 'team' to communicate directly with each other and share documents in a common space.
  • Microsoft Bookings; an online scheduling tool that links with your Outlook Calendar
