Reverend Tony Romaine, M.A.’13, originaly came to Saint John's Graduate School of Theology and Seminary prepared to follow an academic track towards further studies. However, during his time in Collegeville, the Holy Spirit reached him with what he describes as his "when" moment.
In this epiphany Tony realized something - God's call to ministry would be made clear when he was ready to get out of the way and completely trust in where God was leading him.
Today, Tony is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (UCC) and pastors a congregation on Little Falls, Minnesota. He loves every second of delivering scripture and uplifting his congregants spirituality.
According to Tony, Saint John's Graduate School of Theology and Seminary prepared him for this work in many important ways. He explains, "One of the best gifts the SOT/Sem gave me was the ability to learn how to slow down and pay attention to how God is calling me." Some weeks, Tony will plan a scripted message, carefully writing it out word-for-word, only to realize God is asking him to proclaim something completely different.
"It takes trust and belief in God and the work of the Holy Spirit. Trust that can only be developed through listening and receiving; trust that only comes from a deep exploration of spirituality. These things: exploration, patience, guidance, listening, and trust are just some of the 'lessons' taught at the SOT/Sem that continue to inspire me throughout my journey."
