Transfer Students

Students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university who wish to transfer to CSB/SJU and complete their degree with a major in nutrition.

General Information for Transfer Students:

• All transfer students must have a transcript evaluation completed by the CSB/SJU registrar’s office with regard to total credits that will be counted toward a degree from CSB/SJU.
• Students transferring to CSB/SJU should review the information in the Academic Catalog.
• Courses that transfer students would like evaluated for meeting pre-requisite courses or required courses in the Nutrition major should be evaluated by the Nutrition Department Chair and/or the Dietetics Program Director

Students interested in the Nutrition major who intend to complete two or more semesters at another accredited college or university before transferring to CSB/SJU are advised to consider completion of one or more of the following pre-requisite courses (refer to CSB/SJU Academic Catalog for description of courses indicated):

For the Didactic Program in Dietetics or Nutrition Major:

• Introductory Biology course (see BIOL 101)
• Anatomy and Physiology (see BIOL 216)
• Introductory sequence in chemistry, for example, one semester of general chemistry and one semester of introduction to organic and biochemistry

Continuing Education Students

Graduates who have an earned bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university and are seeking to complete only the academic coursework to be eligible for the RD credential.

Individuals who wish to continue their education (on either a part-time “Continuing Education” or full-time “Special Student” basis) with the intent to be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian may complete the courses required for the Didactic Program in Dietetics without earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from CSB/SJU. Once all DPD program requirements have been met, candidates for the credential will receive a verification statement from the Program Director that will indicate that they are qualified to apply to an accredited internship program. Continuing education students in the DPD must complete all of the educational and professional criteria required by the Accreditation Council on Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) to be eligible to take the national Registration Examination for Dietitians. These criteria include the following:

1. Documentation of completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited, U. S. college or university (official transcripts from degree granting institution will be required)
2. Verification of completion of an ACEND-accredited program of study in dietetics
3. Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program (Dietetic Internship) which follows completion of steps 1 and 2. (see more information under the link, Didactic Program in Dietetics)
4. Pass a national registration examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

Required courses for completion of the ACEND-accredited program of study in dietetics (DPD)

Pre-requisite and supporting work:

• BIOL 101, 216; CHEM 125 and 250; MATH 124

Nutrition Courses:

• NUTR 125, 220, 223/225, 230, 305, 312, 320, 323, 330, 333, 337, 341, 342, 343, 345

It is possible that course work completed as part of an earned undergraduate degree at another college/university could be counted as coursework in the DPD. A transcript and syllabus evaluation is completed by the DPD Program Director to determine if a previously completed course may be counted toward completion of the DPD. The candidate should follow these guidelines when requesting a transcript review:

• Coursework to be considered must have been completed within 5 years of starting coursework in the DPD at CSB/SJU and have an earned course grade of C or better.
• A syllabus for the course to be reviewed must be provided, as well as official transcripts that document course and degree completion.
• Final decisions on courses that count toward completion of the DPD at CSB/SJU are made by the DPD Program Director (Linda Shepherd, MPH, RD; [email protected]).

General Information for Continuing Education (CE) Students:

• The Academic Catalog  provides information for enrollment as a Continuing Education Student. All returning students who intend to complete the DPD at CSB/SJU must contact the Academic Advising Office prior to enrolling in the DPD, or for detailed information about the process of enrolling as a CE student.
• “Continuing Education (CE) Students” are students enrolled on a part-time basis, defined as 11 credits or fewer. “Special Students” are students enrolled on a full-time basis, defined as 12 credits or more.
• Tuition is charged on a per credit basis up to and including 11 credits per semester. CE students enrolled in 12 or more credits in a single semester will be charged full tuition for CSB/SJU.
• Enrollment in all courses, including those required for the DPD, is on a space available basis. CE and Special Students may enroll after general enrollment of full time students is complete.
